Short answer

Booking set crew in Berlin — the short answer

Set crew and production assistants in Berlin cost from 26 €/h net per person as a new client, regularly 28 €/h net, with a minimum booking of 5 hours. Four assistants for a ten-hour shooting day therefore come to 1,040 € net. Our crews handle everything around the shoot: lock-offs and blocking, transport, set-up and tear-down, crew catering and runs. Shooting days move — so we brief on waiting times, radio discipline and the rule that on set only the production manager calls the shots. We do not supply camera, lighting, sound, make-up or production management.

What our set crews do

Two crew members in black stand at the entrance of a location in the evening

Lock-offs & blocking

Securing the shooting area, politely redirecting passers-by and talking to residents before it turns into a conflict. On Berlin location shoots that decides the schedule more often than the technology.

Commercials & image films in Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg

Short, dense shooting days with several set-ups: the changeover between two locations decides the schedule, not the number of takes.

Series & studio productions in Adlershof

Our longest film jobs run in the media city of Adlershof: the same people for weeks, days of six to ten hours, regular call times.

Crew catering & base camp

Coffee before the first take, lunch on time, a tidy base camp at wrap. Catering and base-camp staff from the same team as your set crew.

Locations in Brandenburg

Potsdam, Ludwigsfelde, Königs Wusterhausen, Grünheide: outside Berlin the travel time from the city limit counts as working time — in return the crew arrives together and on time.

Just the runs, not a whole crew

When the set is built and someone just has to keep fetching things, one person is enough: the set runner is the mobile role between base camp, set and rental house.

What set crew costs in Berlin

All prices per person and hour, minimum booking 5 hours. What moves the price is not the work on site — it is how much say you want in who is assigned.

Incl. 19 % VAT

New client rate 26 €/h 30.94 €/h instead of 28 €/h 33.32 €/h on the base rate

The new client rate applies to the first 50 person-hours of your first working day, provided the quote comes from the price calculator and you confirm within three days.

  • Chosen by you, as with curation
  • +6 €/h per booked specialist

The rate applies per person: every specialist you book costs +6 €/h — also without curation, which makes 34 €/h. A team lead is not a tier; it appears as its own surcharge below.

Included in every hourly rate — at every tier

  • Bookable from five hours per person — no day rates, no packages. Billing is for at least the time booked, in half-hour increments
  • Cover is included in the hourly rate — if someone drops out at short notice, a replacement steps in with no surcharge
  • Licensed for temporary agency work (AÜG): you may direct our staff on site yourself, legally sound as agency work. A service contract is equally possible
  • Overtime at the same hourly rate, with no mark-up
  • You see who is coming before the shift: photo, name and a short profile of every person assigned, in our client portal
  • Staffing status stays visible throughout — from the moment the order arrives to the last position filled
  • Digital timesheet: hours confirmed on site by phone, the PDF follows automatically, one collected invoice at month end
  • On set, calls come from the production manager, not from us — every crew member is briefed on that
  • Confidentiality on set: no photos, no posts, no talk about content, cast or locations
  • The same crew across a shooting block where availability allows, at no extra cost
  • Quotes, briefings and invoices in English on request
  • Travel inside Berlin included whenever a train or tram stop is within ten minutes’ walk at both ends of the shift

Larger clients are quoted individually. For high volume, recurring shifts or framework agreements we quote individually — get in touch.

How it works

Booking a set crew — how it works

From enquiry to shift in four steps — no contract lock-in, bookable from 5 hours.

  1. Tell us six things

Location, date, working hours, number of people, the task and the dress code. With those six we can start staffing; contact person, access and billing details can follow.

    under a minute
  2. Get a price straight away

The calculator does the arithmetic with your actual times and gives you a quote as a PDF — every surcharge on its own line, no sign-up, no phone call.

    60 seconds
  3. A personal reply

A person reads your enquiry and comes back with questions or a confirmation — not an auto-responder. That takes under 24 minutes.

    under 24 minutes
  4. Binding confirmation

Once the details are settled you get a binding confirmation and the shift goes into our scheduling. Usually within two hours of the enquiry.

    usually under 2 h
  5. You see the team

Photo, name and short profile of each person assigned appear in the client portal. Briefing documents go to the team, not just to you.

    before the event
  6. On the day

The team arrives briefed and on time. Your contact stays reachable throughout — one number, one person, not a rota of call handlers.

  7. Hours and invoice

Hours are recorded on a digital timesheet you countersign. The invoice follows from that record, with every surcharge itemised.

Step one takes under a minute: enter the details, get a quote as a PDF.

Why set crew works differently from event staff

On set, what counts is that people understand how a shooting day works: quiet when the camera rolls, hands on when the set changes, never in the shot. The biggest difference from events is the waiting — someone who stands for an hour between two set-ups and then has to deliver in five minutes needs a different temperament from someone behind a bar. That is exactly what we select for. International production? Most of our crew also speak English; say so in your enquiry.

The difference shows from five hours upwards. Work out what your shift costs.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about film and production staff

Answer

From 26 €/h net per person as a new client, regularly 28 €/h net, minimum 5 hours. The new client rate applies if you create the quote in the price calculator, confirm within three days and book with us for the first time. Example: four production assistants on a ten-hour shooting day cost 4 × 10 × 26 € = 1,040 € net as a new client.

Production assistants work as a team on location: set-up and tear-down, transport, changeovers, lock-offs. The set runner is the mobile single role connecting base camp, set, rental house and catering, reachable on radio all day. The production manager plans the day, holds the permits and the schedule and calls the shots. We staff the first two, not the third.

Camera, lighting, sound, make-up, art department and production management — every department that needs its own training and carries its own responsibility. We supply the people around them.

Locking off, blocking, redirecting passers-by and talking to residents — yes, that is part of the role. Guarding, checking people or physically enforcing house rules is not: in Germany that is a security service under § 34a of the Trade Regulation Act and belongs to a licensed security company.

Under the German Working Hours Act, usually eight and, with compensation, up to ten hours per working day; from six hours of work a 30-minute break is required, from nine hours 45 minutes. Longer days we split across two shifts.

All speak German, most also English. If your production runs in English, say so in the enquiry and we staff accordingly.

No. We supply people. Vans, base-camp tents, barrier material and permits for public land come from your production or a rental house. Our crew sets up, looks after and operates what is there, and drives production vehicles if agreed beforehand — say so in the enquiry and we staff people with a category B licence.

Yes. All are employed by us with full social insurance, deployed under the AÜG and briefed on set safety and set etiquette through our training portal. We pay wages and contributions as the employer — you get one invoice instead of a handful of short-term contracts you would have to register yourself.

Yes: set runners and production assistants come exclusively from our own pool, and the only way in is the questionnaire on our jobs page (in German). Good German is a requirement for these roles.
